Training Centre Volvo MF51EXP was operating out of Farnworth Fire Station.
Alos normally based at Training Centre, Volvo MV53EXO was on the run at Blackley Fire Station.
Due to possible asbestos contamination,
it was not possible to get any closer to the incident than the pictures
shown below. Originally a part of Gidlow Mills, more recently
the building had been used by Wigan and Leigh College, but for the last
few years has been derelict. It was at the mill premises just
behind this building where Sub Officer George Chadwick from Hindley received
life-changing ionjuries in October 1969.
